You can install WebMail Lite on a server powered by DirectAdmin control panel, as an additional option for accessing e-mail accounts.
The installation is fully automated. To begin, download the installer package from here and extract it as follows:
tar -xzvf ./webmail-directadmin.tar.gz
To perform the installation, root access is required. Open the installer directory, make sure that install script has sufficient execute permissions and run it:
chmod a+x ./installer
./installer -t lite -a install
The installer downloads WebMail Lite package and performs the basic product configuration. The default installation path is
If you're getting errors like:
./DirectAdmin/functions: line 150: php: command not found
WARNING! Database tables were not created. Try creating them from AdminPanel.
that means command-line version of PHP isn't configured correctly. Make sure PHP CLI with cURL and MySQL extensions is available. On Debian 11, for example, the following command resolves the issue:
apt install php php-cli php-xml php-mysqlnd php-curl php-mbstring sudo
You would need to remove the installation with:
./installer -a remove
and run the installer again.
In case if an existing WebMail Lite installation is found in this directory, the installer warns you about that:
AfterLogic WebMail already installed into /var/www/html/afterlogic! Replace the current version?[y/n]
If you choose to overwrite the existing installation, only files are replaced while all the database content is kept intact, the database structure and configuration files will be updated if necessary. Thus, you won't lose any existing data created by previous installations of WebMail Lite.
/afterlogic alias is added so that any customer hosting a domain on your server will be able to access WebMail Lite at
userdomain.com/afterlogic URL (where
userdomain.com is the domain name of the customer).
Once the installation is over, it's recommended to navigate to WebMail Lite AdminPanel as suggested by the installer (you'll be provided with the default credentials to access the AdminPanel). Once entered the AdminPanel, you can change the default password for AdminPanel access and configure the product any other way you like. This is, however, optional, as the installer sets up the product to fully operational state.
Password change feature
In addition to default functionality of the product, password change module is activated by the installer, so users will be able to change passwords for their accounts hosted by DirectAdmin server.
By default, password change module connects to
2222. If that doesn't work for you, set a correct DirectAdmin main URL in "DirectAdminURL" setting of the module's configuration file
If such a setting doesn't exist in the file, you're probably running a previous version of the module, and you'll need to modify the code directly. Edit
modules/MailChangePasswordDirectadminPlugin/Module.php file and specify DirectAdmin main URL:
$this->oDAApi = new \DirectAdminAPI('http://localhost:2222');
As of version 9.7.0, WebMail Lite includes signup feature for DirectAdmin, and if you run the DirectAdmin installer, this module is available. Should you wish to use it, configure it as described at:
